Breece Hall: From ACL Setback to Jets’ Offensive Star
Jets Nation Jets Nation

The story of Breece Hall has quickly become one of the most compelling in New York football.

Drafted in 2022 with high expectations, Hall flashed brilliance before a season-ending ACL injury derailed his rookie campaign and left the Jets offense searching for answers.

His return in 2023 not only stabilized the backfield but also elevated him into one of the league’s most dynamic dual-threat running backs.

Across the past two seasons, Hall has blended resilience, production, and leadership to emerge as the cornerstone of the Jets’ offense.

His path from setback to stardom shows why he is central to the team’s identity and why his continued growth offers real optimism as the 2025 season approaches.

Breece Hall’s Journey from Injury to Inspiration

Breece Hall entered the NFL with high expectations after being drafted by the New York Jets in 2022. Through the first seven weeks of his rookie season, he looked every bit like the dynamic playmaker the Jets had envisioned. Hall averaged 5.8 yards per carry, the highest among NFL running backs with at least 50 rushing attempts.

His combination of speed, vision, and power made him an early contender for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. That excitement ended in Week 7 when Hall tore his ACL against the Denver Broncos. The Jets were 4-2 and surging, but his injury derailed their momentum.

Without Hall and offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker, the team collapsed, finishing 2-8 in their last 10 games. Despite missing most of the year, Hall still led the Jets in rushing with 463 yards. The team traded for James Robinson, but he never became a factor.

Hall later admitted the setback forced him to learn humility and patience.

“I used to think I was kind of Superman because I never got hurt,” he said. “So, I went from never having an injury to boom, my knee gave out on me.”

He added that the isolation of rehab made him appreciate the value of teammates and the small moments he once overlooked.

A Breakout Comeback Season in 2023

Hall’s determination and work ethic were on full display when he returned for the 2023 season. Activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list during the offseason, he was ready by Week 1 and wasted no time reminding the league of his talent. Over 17 games, he totaled 1,585 scrimmage yards, one of the highest marks in the league.

He rushed for 994 yards and caught 76 passes for 591 yards, both leading all running backs in receiving categories. Hall scored nine touchdowns and gave the Jets consistency in an offense plagued by quarterback issues. His presence provided balance at critical moments.

When the team released veteran Dalvin Cook, it confirmed Hall was the featured back. Analysts pointed to his explosiveness, which looked nearly indistinguishable from his pre-injury form.

He also ranked among the league’s top fantasy running backs from Week 5 onward, underscoring his consistent week-to-week impact....
