The Pittsburgh Steelers learned their game in week 4 in Ireland will be against NFC North opponent the Minnesota Vikings.
After months and years of anticipation, the Pittsburgh Steelers will host Ireland’s first regular-season NFL game. On Tuesday, Steelers fans discovered who their opponent will be in Week Four: the Minnesota Vikings.
The Steelers and Vikings will kick off from Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland on at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time on Sept. 28. That’s a 2:30 p.m. local kickoff. The game will be broadcast on NFL Network.
The Steelers are scheduled to play against the NFC North for the 2025 season. There had previously been speculation that they would play the Green Bay Packers. However, with Aaron Rodgers’ uncertainty, the league appears to prefer that the game be in Pittsburgh in the event he signs with the Steelers.
Team owner Art Rooney II had strongly advocated for a game in Ireland on multiple occasions.
“The opportunity for the Pittsburgh Steelers to play in Ireland is truly special, not only because of the Rooney family history there but because it allows us to connect with Irish fans while also giving fans who travel from Pittsburgh and beyond a unique football experience,” said Rooney said in a press release. “We are thrilled to be part of this historic event and to represent Pittsburgh on a global stage.”
Not only do the Steelers have marketing rights to the area, but the late Dan Rooney served as a U.S. Ambassador under President Barack Obama. He served in this position from 2009-2012.
Dan Rooney also co-founded The Ireland Fund in 1976 to promote and support peace, culture, education, and community development throughout the island of Ireland and Irish-related causes around the world.
The last time the Steelers played across the pond, they played in London as the Vikings played host in week four of 2013. In that game, rookie running back Le’Veon Bell made his debut, scoring two touchdowns.
Unfortunately, his productive debut wouldn’t be enough as Vikings’ running back Adrian Peterson shredded Pittsburgh for 140 yards in leading his squad to a 34-27 win over the Steelers.
Alan Saunders provided reporting from Palm Beach at the owners meetings.
