Mike Tomlin is stepping down as Pittsburgh Steelers head coach, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

“After a historic 19-season run in Pittsburgh, Mike Tomlin just informed his team that he is stepping down as the Steelers head coach, sources tell Jeremy Fowler and me.” Schefter reports. “The Steelers now will be looking for only their fourth head coach since 1969.”

Tomlin and the Steelers closed out the 2025 season with a 30-6 loss to the Houston Texans, marking the seventh straight loss for Tomlin as a head coach, tying Marvin Lewis for the NFL record. The Steelers have not won a playoff game since 2016.

Tomlin was hired in 2007 after Bill Cowher retired. He led the Steelers to a win in Super Bowl XLIII and another appearance in Super Bowl XLV, where they lost to Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. He was the longest tenured head coach in the NFL.
