The Dallas Cowboys entered the offseason in desperate need to find a no. 2 wide receiver to line up opposite of Ceedee Lamb, and it appears as though they’ve found their man.
In an early morning shocker, it was announced that the Cowboys were finalizing a deal that would bring former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens to Big D. The exact terms of the deal are Pickens and a 2027 sixth-round pick to the Cowboys in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick.
Pickens is entering the final year of his contract, so it is now expected that the Cowboys will work to get an extension done with their newest addition.
Prior to the trade, the Cowboys were looking at a situation that would have either Jalen Tolbert, KaVontae Turpin or Jonathan Mingo as the team’s other starting wideout opposite Lamb.
Cowboys fans can now breathe a sigh of relief, as they add one of the league’s best deep-ball threats to an offense that also added running backs Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders this offseason.
Pickens has been known to bring about his fair share of issues, whether it’s complaining about his quarterback or taking dumb penalties and fighting players on the opposing team. However, when he’s focusing on just playing football, he can be an absolute game-changer, as he showed on several occasions in the Steel City.
In three seasons with the Steelers, the 24-year-old wideout totaled 174 receptions for 2,841 yards and 12 touchdowns. Last season, he had 900 yards and three touchdowns in just 14 games.
The Cowboys will hope for even bigger numbers when the former second-round pick laces them up in 2025.
