It seems like Brandon Aiyuk is in an odd place these days, so the Washington Commanders might want someone else for their new offense. An ESPN analyst urged the Commanders to sign Tyreek Hill instead.

“The caveat here is ‘if healthy,’ but the Commanders could use a solid No. 2 receiver and a field stretcher who is a step up from Dyami Brown,” Aaron Schatz wrote. “They are currently third in cap space, so the economics work for them. Jayden Daniels is a dynamic young quarterback who could get the ball out to Hill.”

This move could make sense. But the brutal nature of Hill’s 2025 injury makes him a big risk for the upcoming season.

Is WR Tyreek Hill right for the Commanders?

Let’s take a long pause on this one. First, Hill is 32 years old. That’s already past the “cliff” age for wide receivers. And it’s a double whammy for Hill. Not only is he a speed receiver, but he’s coming off a major injury. What logic is there that says he can still be a major contributor to an NFL offense?

Last year, Hill played in only four games. He caught 21 passes for 265 yards. Stretch that pace to a whole season, that’s right at 90 catches for over 1,100 yards. So, it’s fair to say he still had juice last year.

But again, one more year of age and the injury combine to make retirement seem more likely than rejuvenation. Hill earned eight straight Pro Bowl honors to start his career, but expecting that player to show up this year seems like a stretch.

Plus, there’s no guarantee he contributes at all this year, according to a post on X by Josh Moser.

“Tyreek Hill Update: Agent Drew Rosenhaus says the focus is for
@cheetah to come ‘all the way back.’ Right now, there is currently no timetable.”

That’s a big open-ended guess. So the ESPN analyst is certainly free to suggest the Commanders should go that route. But the suggestion doesn’t make it true.
