The relationship between Brandon Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers has gone off the rails ever since the star wide receiver suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee in the 2024-25 season. After missing all of the 2025-26 campaign and skipping out on mandatory appearances with the club over the past year or so, Aiyuk started posting videos taking shots at the franchise on social media.
The 28-year-old wideout posted another clip on his Instagram account on Tuesday. In the video, Brandon Aiyuk claims the reason why the 49ers are mad at him is that they are “stupid.” He claims that what makes the organization stupid is that San Francisco is mad at themselves for giving him a four-year, $120 million contract.
“You want to know why [the 49ers] are really mad, though?” asked Aiyuk. “They mad cause they stupid. They dumb. They mad that they paid me $50 million in eight months. And they voided my guarantees for 2027. And I’m about to be on a new team in 2027. They mad at themselves, for real. They acting like they mad at me, but they stupid a** mad at themselves.”
The 49ers voided about $27 million of what was originally guaranteed money from Aiyuk for the 2026-27 season. The five-year veteran failed to meet contractual obligations, missing rehab sessions for his injured right knee along with team meetings.
Rumors have speculated the 49ers are trying to find a trade partner, but that has seemingly been proven difficult. There was some buzz that the Washington Commanders could be a team that is potentially interested after the veteran wide receiver was seen repping the club’s logo in a social media post. But head coach Dan Quinn didn’t make his or the team’s interest in Brandon Aiyuk known when asked about it on Tuesday.
Aiyuk has flashed major potential throughout his NFL career. In 69 career games played (67 starts), Aiyuk has recorded 294 receptions, 4,305 yards, and 25 touchdowns. He is still technically part of the 49ers franchise until further notice.
