The breakup between Brandon Aiyuk and the 49ers seems imminent. A year after agreeing to a lucrative four-year contract extension, Aiyuk’s tenure with the 49ers is ending.
Aiyuk is not making things any better for himself. On Saturday, he posted a video of himself speeding past Levi’s Stadium. The dash read him going over 100 MPH. That is beyond dangerous to do anywhere in the world.

The team recently placed Aiyuk on the left squad list, and HC Kyle Shanahan said he hasn’t seen him in a month.

This is not a good look for a player who is likely headed for a new team.
In the meantime, Aiyuk has been floated as a trade target for multiple teams. Regardless, Aiyuk is reportedly on borrowed time with the 49ers. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini previously reported as much. She said Aiyuk and the 49ers are headed for a stunning divorce.”
A report noted that the 49ers voided guaranteed money in Aiyuk’s deal for next season. Russini added that since Brandon Aiyuk isn’t planning to fight it, this “would clear the way for his expected release at season’s end.”
A second-team All-Pro in 2023, the future looked bright for the former Arizona State star. Since then, it’s been all downhill.
The 27-year-old was placed on the physically unable to perform list. This came after sustaining a season-ending knee injury last October. He was never activated. There is quite a bit of drama surrounding Aiyuk. However, when he’s been healthy, it makes him a guy worth considering for other teams.
There’s been a lot of mystery and mystique surrounding his fall from grace. Whatever the reason may be, he will have to figure it out on his next team. 2023 was his breakout season. He caught 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns. It was good enough to earn Brandon Aiyuk a spot on the All-Pro Second Team.
