Brandon Aiyuk Claims He Has No Agent; NFLPA Database Still Lists 1 For Him

49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is continuing to make waves with videos on social media. In his latest (via David Lombardi of the San Francisco Standard), he claims he does not have an agent.

“I terminated my SRA [standard representation agreement] through the NFLPA last year in November,” Aiyuk said.

But the NFLPA’s database still lists Ryan Williams of Athletes First as Aiyuk’s agent, according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, indicating that Aiyuk did not complete the process of terminating his SRA.

Aiyuk’s post indicates that he has not been in touch with Williams, which is not surprising. His inadvisable antics over the last several months have essentially placed him on the outside looking in of the NFL. He declined to show up for rehab sessions at the team facility for his brutal 2024 knee injury, resulting in his placement on the reserve/left squad list. That allowed the 49ers to void the remaining guarantees in his contract – though the rest of the terms remain in place.

It is exceedingly likely that an agent would have recommended any of this. Completing his recovery, even cosmetically, would have allowed Aiyuk to see the $25MM option bonus he was due this year. But even if he does return to an NFL field, his contract will be nowhere near as lucrative. He first must petition the league to be reinstated and then ask the 49ers to release him, to which they would almost certainly agree given his contract. After that, he would likely seek to join the Commanders. At the moment, the team appears uninterested in signing him. If that were to happen, it would likely be on a one-year deal with for the veteran minimum – if Aiyuk can pass a physical. Washington could also take the step of using injury waivers for Aiyuk’s right knee as the Giants did for Odell Beckham Jr.‘s past injuries.
