Shane Tamura wanted to hurt people and get out a message after his reign of terror.

The former Southern California football standout killed four people inside a Midtown Manhattan building Monday, including an off-duty police officer. The 27-year-old gunman played football while attending Granada Hills Charter School in Los Angeles County.

Those who knew Tamura as a young athlete say they never saw any signs of problems, so his actions on Monday left them very confused.

It turns out Tamura had a message.

Tamura, wearing body armor and carrying an M4 assault rifle, was found dead from what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the 33rd floor.

During a press conference on Monday evening, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Shane Tamura had a “documented mental health history.”

Authorities said the gunman reportedly left a suicide note saying he suffered from Chronic traumatic encephalopathy.

To kill himself, he purposely shot himself in the chest so he could preserve his brain to be studied later.

CTE is a degenerative brain disease found in individuals with a history of repeated head impacts, according to the Mayo Clinic.

His reasoning for blaming the NFL remains bizarre since he never went past high school football.

Shane Tamura Mentions Terry Long In Suicide Note

Shane Tamura, the 27-year-old crazed gunman who killed an NYPD officer, and many others, left a suicide note or a manifesto that helped investigators understand the motive behind the shooting spree.

The note, running several pages, is addressed to Terry Long, the former Pittsburgh Steelers player who was diagnosed with CTE after downing antifreeze to kill himself in 2005.

“Terry Long, football gave me CTE, and it caused me to drink a gallon of antifreeze,” the note stated.

“You can’t go against the NFL, they’ll squash you,” he wrote.
