The Seahawks legend continues to expand his business portfolio.
Bobby Wagner is a Seattle Seahawks legend, current Washington Commanders starter, and future Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee. He’s also an entrepreneur currently rolled in Howard University’s MBA program, and he’s just made another major investment that hits close to home for Washingtonians.
Wagner just became the first active NFL player to have an ownership stake in a WNBA team, and it’s none other than the four-time champion Seattle Storm.
From the team’s official statement:
“Bobby is a hometown hero who has had immeasurable impact on the Seattle community,” said Seattle Storm Co-Owner Lisa Brummel. “He shares our desire to grow the game and knows the value and importance of investing in women’s sports. As we continue to build on the incredible legacy of the Storm franchise, we are excited to add Bobby’s experience and expertise to the mix.”
“It’s an honor to join the Seattle Storm ownership group and support a franchise that has consistently set the standard in women’s professional sports,” said Wagner. “This is about more than basketball, it’s about investing in a legacy of excellence, empowering women, and continuing to elevate the game for future generations.”
The Storm ownership group also includes team icon Sue Bird (now with her own statue coming soon), so if you’re looking for a combo of Seattle sports greats investing in one team you’ve got two of the best ever in their respective sports.
Two years ago in an interview with Rich Eisen, Wagner talked about one day owning a team, even floating the idea of potentially having an ownership stake in the Seahawks. He’s at least accomplished the goal of being a part-owner of a pro sports team, all while still pushing for one more Super Bowl run with the Commanders.
Wagner also recently opened a Crumbl Cookies store in Renton, not too far from Seahawks headquarters.
Even when Bobby’s playing days are over, expect him to be present in the business world for years to come.
