Mile High Report
The Denver Broncos offseason focus has been on Bo Nix and his ankle.
The talk has been over the map, but now we know there’s no doubt the Broncos quarterback is back. Nix will be a full go for training camp. He also said earlier this week he feels better than ever.
What makes all of this a skosh more exciting is what we saw from Nix the last time he was on the field. Not that Broncos Country needs a reminder, but Nix outdueled Josh Allen for one of the best playoff wins in Denver’s franchise history. Of course, we all know what happened around 30 minutes later.
But it’s that showing in the playoff overtime win over the Buffalo Bills that should get the focus for Nix and this Broncos team. Denver beat a team that was favored and one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl. The Broncos showed they can beat any team in the NFL.
“I think really and truly, once you do it once, you know you can do it every time,” Nix said to the media earlier this week. “For me, it was playing in a playoff game last year, host a playoff game this year, win a playoff game this year. It sort of allows you to go into the next season … Really, the whole entire season led us up to this, but once you win a playoff game, you really feel like you can do anything, especially with the team that we have coming back.
“We feel very confident that we can start winning these playoff games and host for longer. So it builds your confidence in a way that you can’t get anywhere else. Just from my experience, to be able to play in a game like that, and not like win comfortably, but have to play later in the game, and then have to go into overtime. It’s a challenge, but like I said, the pressure, it’s a privilege. I just really enjoy it, I really enjoy being in those positions, and I really enjoy having the football at the end of the game.”
There’s debate as to whether Nix and Denver can sustain what they did a season ago. The emphasis is on the one-score, late-game heroics for most of the wins. However, this is a different season and team that now has that experience, plus what happened in the playoffs — good and bad.
Not to mention the motivation of being so close and wanting to do it even more now.
“Yes, I think it’s just like each and every year,” Nix said when asked if he has any personal goals. “I want to have a great completion percentage and put the ball in play. I want to have very few turnovers and mental errors. At the end of the day, if you asked that question to every quarterback, they want to win the Super Bowl and an MVP. That’s...
