The Cincinnati Bengals may finally have the inside of their defense at full strength again very soon.
Veteran defensive tackle B.J. Hill is slowly returning to practices after dealing with a foot injury most of this offseason.
Hill returning to drills on Tuesday is a good sign that he will be ready by Week 1 of the Regular Season at the very least. This may be a situation in which the coaching staff opts not to play Hill during the preseason at all to lower the risk of re-injuring his foot.
This news comes as the defense prepares to bounce back from a lackluster performance against the Philadelphia Eagles’ backups.
The Bengals plan to pair Hill and T.J. Slayton, acquired via free agency this offseason, to help shore up the middle of the defense that was abused at times last season. The team was forced to rely on Kris Jenkins and Jackson McKinnley early and often in the season. Those two entering their second seasons should be more reliable, but it will be nice to have that veteran presence leading the charge. BJ Hill is a big part of that physically and metaphorically.
