Well, that was sloppy, and stressful… and a lot closer than the scoreboard showed. But the Buffalo Bills are 4-0 after their win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. It’s the first time since 2020 that they’ve been perfect after four weeks.
While the game had plenty of us shouting at our televisions, there are better things to Shout! about now that the game is over. Here’s a look at some of the days off-the-scoreboard accomplishments for the Bills.
The win was the 90th of Sean McDermott’s head-coaching career.
James Cook had his third straight 100-yard rushing day. Plus, he scored a touchdown in his eighth-straight regular-season game. Read more about Cook’s accomplishments here.
Josh Allen did above-average things. Like passing O.J. Simpson on the team’s all-time touchdown list and throwing for 100 yards in the first quarter alone. Read about how great he was in an otherwise shaky-looking game here.
Safety Cole Bishop recorded his first career interception – something Bills fans have been not-so-patiently waiting for since he entered the league last year. Bishop’s second-quarter interception ended a Saints’ red zone drive at the goal line and, had he missed, would likely have resulted in a touchdown.
The interception was unique. The pass was thrown by wide receiver Chris Olave on a trick play that was supposed to end with a reception and score by quarterback Spencer Rattler. Bishop’s interception was the Bills’ first pick of a pass thrown by a non-quarterback since 2009 when linebacker Chris Draft intercepted Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams.
Sticking with the defense, defensive end Joey Bosa, who joined the team this season and took a lot of criticism from Bills fans as he missed on several tackles for a loss throughout the game, forced a fumble that ended the game. While the fumble was recovered by New Orleans, it was on a fourth-down play that resulted in the Saints turning the ball over to Buffalo who went into victory formation to end the game. Bosa’s forced fumble was the 21st of his career, tying him for fifth among active NFL players.
The Bills scored 31 points on Sunday. Something that didn’t seem like it was going to happen at halftime when they were struggling to get first downs. But they did it, and it was the third time in team history (and the first since 1992) that they have scored 30 or more points in each of their first four games.
Speaking of scoring during the first four weeks of a season, the Bills are the only team to have scored a touchdown on the opening drive of every game this year.
Of course, we all know that this is it. The final season at the current season: The Farewell Season. And the Bills are making the most of it. They have won 14 straight regular-season games in Highmark Season. It’s the second-longest streak in team history. The record: 15 home games won over the 1990-1991 seasons. Next week,...
