The Bills make another change to the receiver room
The Buffalo Bills made a small change to their roster at wide receiver, signing 28-year-old Kristian Wilkerson to a one-year contract earlier this week. In a corresponding move, the Bills also parted ways with Hal Presley III, who had recently signed as an undrafted rookie free agent following the NFL Draft.
Wilkerson, originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Tennessee Titans in 2020, most recently played for the Las Vegas Raiders. He appeared in three games last season, catching three receptions for 18 yards and a touchdown. In total, he’s played in just six NFL games since entering the league, tallying six receptions on 11 targets for 60 yards.
Wilkerson’s deal with the Bills is for the league minimum, $1.1 million in base salary, with no guaranteed money or signing bonus, making this a no-risk camp addition for Buffalo. On the offseason salary cap, Wilkerson drops Jordan Hancock out of the top 50 contracts, so it adds only $200,000 or so to the current cap commitments.
Standing at 6’ 1”, 200 pounds, and boasting a 4.46-second 40-yard dash and a 39.5-inch vertical from his 2020 pro day, Wilkerson brings notable athleticism to the receiver room, but still remains a long shot to crack the 53-man roster.
While his signing is likely aimed at adding depth during training camp, Wilkerson could make a push for a spot on the practice squad if he flashes during the preseason.
Wilkerson was most recently let go by the Raiders earlier this offseason and now joins a crowded wide receiver room in Buffalo. The wide receiver depth chart currently includes Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Joshua Palmer, Elijah Moore, Curtis Samuel, Laviska Shenault Jr, Kaden Prather, KJ Hamler, Tyrel Shavers, Jalen Virgil, and Kelly Akharaiyi.
