The Bills moved to retain many players from their practice squad in the wake of Buffalo’s AFC Championship Game defeat

The Buffalo Bills announced that they have signed nine players to reserve/futures contracts. All nine of those players were part of the team’s practice squad for the 2024 NFL season. By signing a reserve/future contract, that means that each of those players will be part of the team’s 90-man roster this offseason.

The first seven players were announced as a group. They included cornerbacks Te’Cory Couch and Daequan Hardy, offensive linemen Mike Edwards and Richard Gouraige, running back Frank Gore Jr., wideout K.J. Hamler, and defensive tackle Zion Logue.

Of particular interest in that group is Hardy, who was a sixth-round draft choice of the Bills in the 2024 NFL Draft. Hamler is a former second-round pick of the Denver Broncos, and while he spent the entire season with the Bills, he did not appear in a game for the team. Logue was acquired when Buffalo signed him to their active roster off of the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad, and he played in two games for the Bills earlier this season, notching two tackles in limited time.

On January 28, Buffalo announced that they had signed two more of their own practice-squad players to reserve/future deals. The team signed wide receivers Tyrell Shavers and Jalen Virgil a day after signing the initial group of seven. Both players appeared in games with the club this season.

Virgil, who the team signed after final cut-downs when he was released by the Broncos, appeared in seven games this season. He was not targeted, but he was effective as a blocker.

Shavers appeared in three games for the Bills this season, and he made the most of his one target, turning a screen pass into a 69-yard touchdown from quarterback Mitch Trubisky on his first career catch.
