Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott ruled out two impact players on defense ahead of their Week 5 matchup against the New England Patriots.

The Bills’ defense has dealt with multiple injuries to begin the season, but two new players have popped up on the injury report and won’t play on Sunday Night Football.

McDermott said that rookie cornerback Dorian Strong and linebacker Dorian Williams are out due to injuries

“I don’t really know, a little bit maybe from this past weekend’s game, maybe something before that,” McDermott said about Strong’s injury on Friday. “We’re looking into that some more.”

Strong is dealing with a neck injury and has been playing opposite Christian Benford at cornerback. Veteran Tre’Davious White will likely take back his starting spot in Week 5 against the Patriots.

Williams, meanwhile, won’t play due to a knee injury. The linebacker has started all four games this season for Buffalo, recording 18 tackles.

Although McDermott ruled out Strong and Williams, the Bills appear to be getting two defensive players back from injury on Sunday.

McDermott didn’t rule out star defensive tackle Ed Oliver, who has missed the last three games due to injury, as well as linebacker Matt Milano, who missed the last two games.

“They’ve looked good, they have,” McDermott said about Oliver and Milano. “They’re both extremely competitive. They go out and practice every day and work hard; it’s good to have both of them out there practicing again for sure.”

Buffalo is a 8.5-point favorite against the Patriots in Week 5.
