Codrington was acquired from the Jets for just a sixth-round pick. Thank you, New York!
All of Bills Mafia must take a moment to thank the New York Jets for trading return specialist Brandon Codrington to the Buffalo Bills back in August for just a sixth-round pick.
Codrington was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team as the top punt returner, averaging 11.6 yards per return, good for the the 15th-best mark across the NFL.
The 24-year-old North Carolina Central product totaled 38 returns this season—11 kick returns and 27 punt returns. While wide receiver Khalil Shakir has filled in nicely as the punt returner while Codrington has nursed a hamstring injury the past few weeks, there’s no denying that all of Bills Mafia feels confident in his ability to have a bright future as a Bill. An argument could be made that the rookie is the most trustworthy return man in Buffalo since Andre Roberts since 2019 and 2020.
Among players with at least 20 punt returns, Codrington ranked seventh in punt return yards over expected, per Next Gen Stats. He’s a rookie and already making a difference when it comes to solid field position and ball security. Thank you, Jets.
