Buffalo Rumblings
Buffalo Mayor Chris Scanlon announced that on Friday, November 14, 2025, Buffalo Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins will be honored with the Key to the City of Buffalo. The ceremony will take place in Niagara Square from 5-7 p.m. EST, with the official presentation beginning at 5:30 p.m. EST. The event is free and open to the public and will be featuring music, food trucks, and family-friendly festivities at Buffalo City Hall.
Dawkins has long embodied the spirit of Buffalo, championing hard work, heart, and a commitment to lifting others up. Through his non-profit organization, Dion’s Dreamers, he has made a lasting impact on children and families throughout the city and Western New York. His efforts focus on creating positive experiences for young people, supporting those in need, and inspiring acts of kindness across the community.
Mayor Scanlon shared his appreciation, saying that Dion “represents everything that makes Buffalo special.” From community events to youth outreach, Dawkins has continually shown that being a Buffalo Bill is about more than football; it’s about family, community, and about giving back.
Dawkins joins former wide receiver Terrell Owens as Buffalo Bills players to receive the key to the City. Owens, was famously given the honor by then-Mayor Byron Brown back in 2009. That moment, while memorable, came a bit prematurely, as Owens had been in Buffalo for less than 24 hours and had participated in just one practice before receiving the ceremonial key.
At the time, the gesture was rooted in excitement and anticipation surrounding Owens’ arrival and the energy he brought to the fan base. In contrast, Dawkins’ honor carries a very different meaning. His recognition is not about fanfare or hype, but about years of genuine service, leadership, and love for the community.
Through thick and thin, Dawkins has shown up for Buffalo, hosting events for kids, serving Thanksgiving dinners, advocating for inclusion, and bringing laughter and warmth wherever he goes. His key to the city is a reflection of what he has built and given to Buffalo.
For Dawkins, this honor is another milestone in a career defined as much by leadership and community engagement as by his performance on Sundays. Whether it’s hosting events for kids, serving Thanksgiving dinners, or speaking out about inclusion and kindness, Dawkins continues to represent the best of what “City of Good Neighbors” truly means.
