The Buffalo Bills are wrapping up their Organized Team Activities later this week, and during Tuesday’s session with the media, new offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael reflected on how he is adjusting to his new role.

Carmichael is reunited in Buffalo with first-year Bills head coach Joe Brady, who worked with Carmichael when the two were part of Sean Payton’s coaching staff with the New Orleans Saints during the 2018 season.

Today’s edition of Buffalo Rumblinks leads off by hearing from Carmichael on his vision for Buffalo’s offense and discusses other news from OTAs, including how offensive tackle Travis Clayton was getting reps as a defensive tackle.

New Bills OC doesn’t plan on reinventing the wheel

Carmichael said he has been busy getting reacquainted with Brady this offseason, and that, on his watch, Buffalo’s offense will be a mix of things that worked last year along with new components Carmichael wants to install.

With a potent Bills offense featuring former NFL MVP Josh Allen and on the heels of leading the league in rushing yards last year behind James Cook and a talented offensive line, Carmichael said he has been using the offseason to identify what worked last year and where there are opportunities to improve the offense.

“Joe was really big on making sure we looked at the things that were done last year and either what changes do we have to make or maybe minor adjustments and there’s also looking at some other teams in the NFL as well because this is the time to do it,” Carmichael said. “It’s the time to look at some new thoughts, see how they work and if they work, great and the quarterback feels positive with, and if not, by the time we get to training camp we’ll be moving on.”

In other news from OTAs: Travis Clayton is being deployed on the defensive line; defensive tackle Ed Oliver and cornerback Christian Benford returned to the practice field; and rookie wide receiver stepped up with Keon Coleman out and made the most of his opportunities catching passes from Josh Allen.
