The Bills added two pass-catchers to the offense on the eve of camp at St. John Fisher College
The Buffalo Bills made a series of roster moves on Tuesday, just one day before training camp opens at St. John Fisher College. The Bills signed wide receiver David White Jr. and tight end Matt Sokol. They also activated rookie defensive end Landon Jackson from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. To make room for White Jr. and Sokol, the Bills released wideout Kelly Akhariyi and punter Jake Camarda.
White Jr., who turned 25 just last week, signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars last year as an undrafted rookie free agent. He tore his ACL during OTAs and never suited up for the club. He played two years at Western Carolina in college, totaling 54 receptions for 903 yards and 11 touchdowns in those two seasons. In his first two NCAA seasons with Valdosta State, the 6’4”, 200-lb. wideout caught 40 passes for 539 yards and eight touchdowns in 25 games.
Sokol, 29, was most recently a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad. He was with the club last offseason. He did not appear in a regular-season game for the Steelers, but he has played in eight games across three seasons for his career. He appeared in two games with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020, and appeared in three games each in 2022 and 2023 with the New England Patriots. He has never been targeted in the passing game.
Jackson was Buffalo’s third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Last week, he was placed on the PUP list. However, reports quickly emerged that he’d be “good to go” for the opening of camp, and those reports held true.
Akhariyi signed with the Bills as an undrafted free agent this spring. Camarda signed a reserve/future deal with the Bills on January 7. The only punter on the 90-man roster now is Brad Robbins.
