The Buffalo Bills are in familiar territory this summer, having to navigate another swell of injuries before the regular season’s even begun. The issue has plagued Buffalo’s offense this year, most notably to the wide receivers room. That doesn’t bode well for a team intent on taking the next level with current NFL MVP quarterback Josh Allen.
Injuries or not, it’s Super Bowl or bust in 2025. But right now, the Bills’ passing game is a bit busted up, with already established injuries to top target Khalil Shakir (high ankle sprain), the dynamic Curtis Samuel (hamstring), and Tyrell Shavers (ankle). Players getting banged up early in the process is nothing new, as the ramp-up window from offseason to full-go is very seldom a tip-toe moment. Try as teams might with minicamps and offseason workouts, it’s impossible to replicate the intensity found once training camp begins.
Yet it’s still not ideal for Allen to miss prep time with Shakir and Samuel, and even worse when there are more injuries at receiver. Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reported on August 13 that in addition to Shakir, Samuel and Shavers, wide receiver Elijah Moore didn’t practice, while Joshua Palmer did but with “his left leg heavily wrapped.”
We understand that Shakir is listed as “week-to-week” with his ankle injury, that Shavers is possibly in a similar boat with his ankle, and that they may be using caution with Samuel’s hamstring, but it remains to be seen how extensive and what, exactly the injury is for Moore. Though concerning to see Palmer limited, at least he was able to practice on Tuesday.
The good news is that wide receiver Keon Coleman continues to shine, and he’s seeing an increase in opportunity with so many of his peers sidelined. We’ve yet to hear who among the starters will play against the Chicago Bears and for how long, but first the team has to get through joint practice sessions in the Windy City.
