The soon-to-be 30-year-old signed a one-year deal with Buffalo in March and has quite the injury history
The on-field work portion of OTAs gets started today for the Buffalo Bills but we are already hearing some negative reports. While all players were present at OTAs aside from running back James Cook, who is seeking a new deal, Bills’ newly signed edge rusher, Joey Bosa, tweaked his calf during team workouts last week and will be sidelined for the foreseeable future, per head coach Sean McDermott.
McDermott also hinted that the 29-year-old will likely be sidelined for all of OTAs but should be good to go for training camp. Considering this is likely a soft-tissue injury, it is not surprising to see Buffalo be a bit extra cautious and rule him out for the entirety of OTAs, especially given his injury history.
Bosa, a former first-round pick for the Los Angeles Chargers, appeared in 14 games in 2024, recording 22 tackles, five sacks and two forced fumbles. He had appeared in just 14 games combined across the previous two seasons, however, and missed a slew of games during the first five seasons of his career.
A calf injury in May certainly isn’t the end of the world but it’s never a good sign to see an injury-prone edge rusher with potential game-breaking abilities already dealing with soft-tissue injuries. Buffalo will roll with the likes of Greg Rousseau, A.J. Epenesa, Michael Hoecht and third-round draft choice, Landon Jackson, at defensive end for this year’s OTAs and perhaps the beginning of training camp.
