Bills at Chiefs: first half open thread
Buffalo Rumblings Buffalo Rumblings

A date in New Orleans is on the line tonight.

The Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs are set to face off tonight to see who will represent the AFC in Super Bowl LIX. This is the fourth time that these two clubs have met for the right to go to a Super Bowl, making it the second-most frequent Conference Title matchup, trailing only the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers, who have met six times with a Super Bowl berth on the line.

For the Chiefs, history is on the line tonight. They are seeking the NFL’s first three-peat in league history. In this their seventh-straight AFC Championship Game appearance, they’re also looking to cement their dynasty even further. For head coach Andy Reid, who was once the guy who couldn’t do the job—first with the Philadelphia Eagles and then once again with the Chiefs before this run of dominance—he’s looking to tie Chuck Noll for second all-time in Super Bowl wins for a head coach.

For the Bills, history is on the line tonight, as well. They’re looking to avoid becoming the winningest team not to appear in a Super Bowl over a seven-year span. They’re looking to finally break free of the stigma that they’re the team that comes close but never is quite enough. For head coach Sean McDermott, he’s looking to show that he can be the guy who can do the job after so many years of coming up short.

It’s the league’s two best quarterbacks in Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. It’s the AFC’s two best teams. It’s the matchup that the entire football world wants to see. And, in a few hours, it’s the matchup that will either propel the Bills to the Super Bowl, or have many of us pulling a Spencer Brown tonight.
