The Philadelphia Eagles completely throttled the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 and put an emphatic stop to what would have been the NFL’s first Super Bowl three-peat.

The floodgates opened early in the first quarter when the Eagles started the scoring with their “Tush Push” as Jalen Hurts plunged into the end zone one play after Jahan Dotson caught a deep pass and was tackled at the 1-yard line.

The Tush Push has been controversial for years, with many fans and some analysts calling for the play to be banned.

Legendary head coach Bill Cowher is among those people.

“It’s not a football play. … Nothing against rugby, but if you want to get a scrum, you want to see a scrum, go to a rugby match,” Cowher said, via “The Dan Patrick Show.”

The Eagles have been having a ton of success for years running the play, which is a big reason why Hurts has 55 rushing touchdowns in the regular season, plus 10 more in the postseason, in just four years in the NFL.

Philadelphia has the biggest offensive line in the league, which is a huge help when combined with a quarterback who is capable of squatting more than 600 pounds.

It appears unlikely the NFL will step in and do anything about the Tush Push, and the reality is that other teams are going to have to either figure out a way to stop it or start implementing the play themselves.

It may not be pretty, but it brought the Eagles a Super Bowl championship.
