New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is quickly becoming one of the best signal-callers in the entire NFL.

The second-year star took another big step toward doing so on Sunday night when he outdueled reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen in Buffalo to lead the Patriots to a 23-20 victory over the AFC East rival Bills.

But you wouldn’t know it if you looked at the social media pages of Maye’s alma mater, North Carolina, and there’s apparently a very good reason for that.

Bill Belichick Has Gotten Embarrassingly Petty Over The New England Patriots

Tar Heels head coach Bill Belichick, who won six Super Bowls as the head coach of the Patriots, seemingly holds little fondness in his heart for his former employer.

Not only has Belichick reportedly banned New England scouts from attending UNC practices, but according to a new report, Belichick has also banned the Tar Heels’ social media department from discussing the Patriots at all.

According to sources inside the UNC football program, it is a directive from the staff (Bill Belichick) to not tweet/retweet anything Patriots-related.

That’s clearly why UNC football has not posted anything from Drake Maye’s electric primetime win over the Buffalo Bills.

Ross Martin of 247Sports states that sources inside the North Carolina program told him that Belichick has handed down a directive to his staff not to tweet or retweet anything about his former team.

Now, that would be a ridiculous directive under any circumstances. But it’s even more insane when you consider that Maye, the biggest star in recent Tar Heels football history, is currently lighting it up in the NFL for the New England Patriots.

Meanwhile, former UNC coach Mack Brown, who was fired in 2024, followed no such directive. Brown immediately took to social media on Monday morning to praise Maye for his big game.

So Happy for Drake. Fun to watch him win last night in Buffalo like he did so many times at UNC. Love and Appreciate you my friend! Keep it rolling! pic.twitter.com/BlfuJOGSto

Belichick doesn’t usually pay attention to outside noise. But that was before he began dating a woman a third of his age and coaching college football. These days, it feels like all he does is react to outside noise.

Whether that noise will be enough to get him to change his ridiculous alleged policy remains to be seen.
