Former New England Patriots head coach who is currently running and revamping the UNC Tarheels’ football program, Bill Belichick, managed to make headlines for something that isn’t related to him dating 24-year-old Jordon Hudson, a story that has dominated the off-season news cycle for weeks. Appearing on The Pivot Podcast, Bill Belichick shared a wild milk story about his Patriots days.
This particular story appears in Belichick’s new book, The Art of Winning: Lessons from a Life in Football, and he seemed eager to tell it on the podcast. It is a tale about what he believes what a moment of disaster diverted because “sometimes, you’ve just got to do the right thing.”
In this case, ‘doing the right thing’ was buying $5,000 worth of rare, nutrient-rich milk for Tom Brady to replace rare, nutrient-rich milk for Tom Brady that Antonio Brown had purchased and which spoiled. It’s unclear what kind of milk it was but looking on Google, it seems like against all odds ‘donkey milk’ is the most expensive milk available for purchase and retails for around $169.99 for 400 grams (~14ozs).

This all went down during the marathon 2 weeks that Antonio Brown spent with the New England Patriots between September 7, 2019 and September 20, 2019 where AB signed a 1-year contract with up to $15M with a $9M signing bonus but ended after 1 game following allegations related to sexual misconduct.
When Antonio Brown showed up in New England, he briefly stayed with Tom Brady. Bill Belichick says “one of the funny stories in the book is the Antonio Brown story. He was only with the Patriots for 11 days. And, Tom’s very nutrition-oriented. Antonio wanted to… Tom had Antonio come and stay at his house, wanted to embrace him, bring him onto the team and so forth.”
Belichick then discusses the special gift AB got Brady. Saying “Antonio ordered this special milk for Brady, it cost $5,000. And, to make a long story short, it kinda got mixed up and ended up in the mail room for too long, and the milk went bad.”
First off, I need to know what $5K worth of rare milk looks and tastes like. Secondly, I need to know how the staff let it get spoiled and then how Bill Belichick was able to replace the rare milk on such short notice.
The former Patriots HC continued, saying “so, we go out and get $5,000 worth of milk, this special milk, and give it to Brady from Antonio, even though, you know. So now, we turn in an expense report like $5,000 worth of milk. Sometimes, you’ve just got to do the right thing, and I didn’t want to ruin the relationship between Brown and Brady on this spoiled milk.”
