Bill Belichick Advances in Hall of Fame Selection Process

Bill Belichick is undoubtedly one of the best football coaches of all time. The coach had unprecedented levels of success in the NFL with the New England Patriots, and he’s now being recognized for his achievements.

It was recently announced that Belichick was one of 12 coaches selected to move forward in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026 selection process. The process will next reduce the group to nine semifinalists in November before eventually landing on just one coaching finalist for the 2026 class.

Some of the other coaches to advance to the next round are notable names like Tom Coughlin, Marty Schottenheimer, Mike Shanahan, and Dan Reeves. Each of those coaches has their own strong case, but nobody has quite the list of achievements that Belichick has.

Over five decades as a coach and 29 years as an NFL head coach, these are just some of Belichick’s accomplishments:

  • 333 total wins (second all-time behind Don Shula)
  • 31 playoff wins (most in NFL history)
  • 6 Super Bowl titles as head coach, 2 as defensive coordinator
  • 17 division title (most in NFL history)
  • 3 Coach of the Year Awards (2003, 2007, 2010)
  • 12 Super Bowl appearances (most in NFL history)

The legendary coach led the Patriots to 20 consecutive winning seasons from 2001-19, which is an unheard-of level of success in the modern era.

Belichick and the Patriots mutually agreed to part ways after the 2023 season and the coach did not work in 2024. However, last December, Belichick agreed to become the next head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels. This was Belichick’s first venture into college coaching at age 73.

So far, in Chapel Hill, things haven’t gone great. It’s notoriously hard to win immediately in college, though, and it will be interesting to see if the legendary coach can turn the ship around next season.
