Acho had Slay on his show:
Ian Rapoport rapoported that the Eagles did indeed put in a claim, but Buffalo was up first.
Acho says veterans shouldn’t be subject to the waiver wire. That’s an interesting topic. Slay has been playing in the NFL since 2013 and is 34 years old. At some point maybe you could reach a threshold where veterans of a certain status go straight to free agency when they’re released. The only problem is that the vets on crap teams would demand their release after the trade deadline so they can go chase a ring. That’s the kind of stuff that can throw off the league’s competitive balance. And the bottom line is that Slay was a free agent and chose to go play for a Yinzer franchise that hasn’t won a playoff game since 2017. He got $8.7 million guaranteed and wasn’t exactly a Pro Bowler out on the field, so now he’s in this situation. You can’t have it both ways.
It’s also somewhat funny that Slay talks about it being “cold as hell” in Buffalo when his prior stops are Detroit, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh. Not exactly the south of France. The Lions play in a dome but Detroit Rock City isn’t exactly Shangri-la. And it gets really depressing and gross in Pennsylvania during the winter, so what is Buffalo in comparison? Siberia? Unless you’re in Southern California or within driving distance of “The Gulf of America,” the weather is shit right now.
