Aaron Rodgers is hitching his circus car at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex this year, though his signing hasn’t moved the needle on the Steelers’ 2025 Win Total. According to FanDuel Sportsbook’s current NFL odds, the Steelers’ total is set at 8.5, with the under being a slight favorite at -130.
Rodgers is a four-time NFL MVP, a Super Bowl Champion, and ranks seventh in all-time passing yards. One would think a player of Rodgers’ caliber signing with Pittsburgh would cause a seismic shift in the NFL futures market. Yet, the Steelers’ odds remain static.
I think there are a few factors at play, but now’s the time to make a bet on the Steelers’ win total.
While Rodgers waffled on podcasts and took contemplative, ocean-side strolls, bookmakers weren’t falling for the act.
Rodgers was going to sign here. How else could one explain an 8.5-win total with Mason Rudolph as the projected QB 1?
The Steelers’ 2025 win total was only going to move in one direction, down, if Rodgers retired or signed elsewhere.
Why should they?
In last season’s Wildcard, the Baltimore Ravens ran through the Steelers’ defense like a bad case of food poisoning for 299 rushing yards.
The Steelers were exposed, and not much has changed on the defensive side of the ball. Cam Heyward and T.J. Watt are aging vets, while Minkah Fitzpatrick has all but disappeared as an impact player.
Combine an aging defense with a 41-year-old QB coming into an offense that averaged only 21.9 points per game, and the lack of bookmaker enthusiasm makes more sense.
Say it with me one more time: Mike Tomlin has never coached a losing season.
We can argue whether Tomlin is still an elite coach or ever was. Yet, there can be no doubt that Tomlin is a coach capable of delivering consistent wins. Why would that change this year?
Aaron Rodgers is a volatile player, capable of blowing the Steelers’ locker room to bits. But Rodgers isn’t the first prima donna QB on Tomlin’s depth chart.
And through all the egos like Brown and Bell and Ben and Russ, one thing has remained consistent: Tomlin’s Steelers win more games than they lose. And I can’t find a reason why that would change in 2025.
Plus money (+110) on the Steelers to have a winning season?
Take the Steelers over for plus money. You might not get odds that good if you wait.
Yes, please. Last year, I thought Tomlin’s Steelers were destined for a losing season, yet they won 10 games. How can I possibly bet against them this year?
