Barnett was part of the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program.

The Cincinnati Bengals have waived defensive tackle Dante Barnett, the team announced on Tuesday.

Barnett, a rookie from Birmingham, England, signed with the Bengals in May as a participant of the International Player Pathway Program. He would not count for a normal roster spot unless he were to make the 53-man roster. He could also remain with the team all season as a designated 17th practice squad player, but it appears the Bengals are no longer interested in this.

Barnett is a descendant of Jamaica but grew up in Birmingham, England, where he began playing American football as a teenager. After working his way in to the NFL Academy in Leicestershire and spending three years there, he attempted to play for a college football program in the United States.

Barnett played one year at Dickinson College, a Division II program in Pennsylvania, before moving back to England. He took part in the University of South Florida’s Pro Day in March and ran a 4.69 40-yard dash.
