Gearing up for the second week of the preseason, the Cincinnati Bengals were back to work on the practice field on Sunday, minus quite a few players. From highlight plays to more defensive focus, here are some of the highlights of Sunday’s practice.
Prior to practice, Zac Taylor told reporters that Geno Stone will be “week-to-week” with a soft tissue injury and will not play on August 18th vs. the Washington Commanders.
There were several players not on the field on Sunday. Some veterans could have been getting rest, while others may be dealing with minor injuries and taking it easy.
Burton’s absence is notable, as he practiced in full on Saturday, with no sign of injury, but has been ruled “day to day” with an undisclosed injury.
The Bengals need a lot out of Murphy this season. On this play, he beats Orlando Brown Jr. to get in to the backfield. Obviously, they don’t hit quarterbacks in practice, but this would have been a sack in a game setting.
Teammates and coaches have been talking Brown up all season, and his performances in camp and the first preseason game indicate that they’ve been right. In 11-on-11 drills, Burrow rolled out and threw a strike in the end zone, where Brown made a nice catch.
Sunday appeared to be a lighter practice, with a focus on special teams. Heading in to next week, they will begin preparing for the Monday Night Football matchup with Washington on August 18th, where we are expected to see more starters taking snaps.
