The Cincinnati Bengals got more bad news on the injury front Monday, when it was reported that linebacker and special teams standout Shaka Heyward will be out four weeks with a fibula injury.
Per Ian Rapoport, Heyward suffered a hairline fracture in Sunday’s loss, and now the Bengals are down a two-year starter on Darrin Simmons’ special teams unit.
The fracture should land Heyward on injured reserve for the four weeks he expected to miss, meaning Joe Giles-Harris may be elevated from the practice squad. Giles-Harris was called up for the Week 8 loss to the New York Jets and played special teams.
With Heyward headed to IR and linebacker Logan Wilson requesting a trade out of Cincinnati, the Bengals could be forced to look in to bringing in a linebacker from outside the building, should they get an offer for Wilson that they wanted to accept.
The Bengals take on the Chicago Bears in Week 9 before their bye week.
