Shemar Stewart’s hit on quarterback Joe Burrow led to a heated fight at Cincinnati Bengals practice on Wednesday.
Caleb Noe of WCPO posted a video of the heated brawl between the Bengals’ offensive and defensive players this morning. According to Noe, the tension started when Shemar Stewart hit Joe Burrow (perhaps accidentally) in the midsection.
Thankfully, Burrow wasn’t injured. At the 0:19 mark of the first video, Bengals linebacker Demetrius Knight Jr. can be seen showing immediate concern about his star quarterback, with the fight breaking out just a few plays later:

Fights happen all the time in training camp and offseason practices. Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel had to break up a fight between some of his players and multiple Chicago Bears during a joint practice just last week.
Dallas Cowboys players got into their own training camp fight two weeks ago, prompting a heated Brian Schottenheimer to gather his players and make them do some extra running.
At any rate, the main thing is that Joe Burrow wasn’t seriously injured. And at the end of the day, it doesn’t hurt players to show their emotions and bring an edge when they haven’t played meaningful football in nine months.
The Bengals are coming off a second straight 9-8 finish that saw them narrowly miss out on the AFC’s final wild card spot. They kick off the 2025 season with a road game against the AFC North rival Cleveland Browns on Sept. 7.
There’s no sugarcoating it: The Bengals have taken significant steps backward these last two years following back-to-back AFC Championship Game appearances.
It was one thing to finish 9-8 after Burrow suffered a season-ending wrist injury in 2023, but last year’s result was a giant disappointment considering that Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Trey Hendrickson all had career years. Only time will tell if the Bengals can rebound and finally reassert themselves as an AFC juggernaut.
