Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was the victim of a home burglary at his Ohio residence back in December while playing against the Dallas Cowboys.

The two-time NFL Comeback Player of the Year opened up about the harrowing ordeal in the Netflix docuseries Quarterback.

The burglary, involving the theft of jewelry and other items, deeply affected Burrow. He understandably felt a significant invasion of privacy. And he was distraught that he had been feeling good with his life, only to have this incident take his mood down a notch or two.

“Of (expletive) course this happened to me right now,” Burrow said. “When you’re on cloud nine, something’s gonna bring you right back down. It just felt like the kind of year that it was.”

“I just get uncomfortable when, you know, my life is very public… and, you know, it comes with the job, but… there’s certain parts of your life that are, like… yours. Your house is one of those,” he added, according to Fox News. “When that gets violated, people find out where you live, all these different things.”

Joe Burrow’s Home Robbed

Four Chilean nationals were later arrested in the robbery at Joe Burrow’s home. The operation was part of a broader pattern of thefts targeting the homes of high-profile athletes.

The alleged criminals were advanced enough to break into a highly secured home of a major athlete, but then stupidly shot themselves in the foot by posing for pictures wearing some of his stolen jewelry.

After the suspects were tracked down, one of the crew tried deleting photos from his cell phone. One such photo showed the gang posing with some of the stolen goods.

In fact, one of the crooks is seen wearing some very specific jewelry – Burrow’s iconic “9″ and “JB9″ necklaces. The police report also indicated the suspects were found with “an old LSU shirt and Bengals hat.”

Burrow explained that the jewelry wasn’t a big deal from his viewpoint.

“They got all my jewelry… but they could have stolen way worse things than that,” he said. “I’m not going crazy about some jewelry. It was expensive, but… it was all insured.”

Reveals Purchase that Fell Through

The home break-in also led to Joe Burrow having to nix a very public, very major purchase – the Batmobile. No, seriously, we’re not kidding.

“I didn’t end up getting the Batmobile because I just had other things I wanted to deal with at that point,” he said.

In the premiere episode of HBO’s Hard Knocks: In Season with the AFC North, which aired last season, Burrow casually dropped a bombshell during a conversation with teammates Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

He had bought himself a Batmobile. A real-life Batmobile....
