A year ago, the idea of Joe Burrow asking the Cincinnati Bengals for a trade seemed like a fantasy that only other NFL fanbases could dream of.

But life comes at you fast in the NFL. Joe Burrow missed nine games this season with a turf toe injury. The Bengals unraveled without him and slipped out of the playoff race. The No. 1 pick of 2020 also expressed his frustration and disappointment with the franchise during a somber press conference last week.

The 4-10 Bengals have already clinched their first losing season since 2010. They’ll miss the postseason for the third straight year. Obviously, this wasn’t the plan after back-to-back AFC Championship Game appearances in 2021 and 2022.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Burrow was asked about the possibility of a scenario where he doesn’t play in Cincinnati next year. Burrow said he “can’t see that,” but offered a more intriguing response when asked about playing for another team.

“You think about a lot of things,” Joe Burrow said.

All we can say is, Bengals ownership and de facto GM Duke Tobin better listen to Burrow’s words carefully. If they can actually build another championship-caliber team around him, his commitment to Cincy won’t be a question.

Bengals Can’t Waste Any More Of Joe Burrow’s Prime

There was a telling moment during the Bengals’ embarrassing 24-0 shutout loss at home to the Baltimore Ravens. After Joe Burrow took a hard hit, his Bengal teammates didn’t bother to step in and defend him.

The Bengals have several issues, but the primary one is their defense. They’re allowing a league-high 31.2 points per game, per Pro Football Reference. Just think about the 34 points they dropped on the road against the Buffalo Bills in Week 14. It still wasn’t enough, because the Bengals gave up 39.

The Bengals have wasted enough of Joe Burrow’s prime years. They better take his words seriously and take action this offseason in rebuilding an extremely flawed roster.
