Cincy Jungle
As it goes with nearly any NFL team this time of year, the Cincinnati Bengals are dealing with injuries. Samaje Perine has been out with a sprained ankle, pitting the lion’s share of touches on Chase Brown, and even reserve Tahj Brooks is now banged up.
To that end, the team has recently brought in reinforcements via free agency to aid the offense. Needing some versatility to back up Brown, Cincinnati reportedly tried to recently sign running back Dameon Pierce, according to Aaron Wilson.
Pierce was a former fourth-round pick by the Houston Texans and enjoyed a breakout rookie campaign back in 2022. In that season, Pierce had 939 rushing yards, five total touchdowns, and 30 receptions.
Injuries and roster additions hurt his production from there, as his statistical production fell dramatically. This led the Texans to waive him a few days ago, and many teams came calling.
As they are dealing with the Perine injury, Cincinnati was one of a handful of teams reportedly interested in Pierce’s services. As it turns out, the Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs again vied for a player they both coveted.
Pierce was signed to the Chiefs’ practice squad, as they attempt to climb out of a somewhat unfamiliar 6-5 record. The former Florida Gator hadn’t recorded any stats against the Bengals in his career.
Perine looks to make his way back to the Bengals’ lineup, but at 3-8, Cincinnati undoubtedly has an eye on 2026 and who can contribute in the near future.
