This sure looks like a critical year for Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. And the team came through with a big offseason. So it shouldn’t be surprising that Burrow restructured his contract after the trade that brought defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence to Cincinnati.
The move saved cap room, according to a post on X by Adam Schefter.
“Bengals restructured the contract of QB Joe Burrow, per @RapSheet and me, creating $10 million in cap room. This move allows Cincy to operate without putting itself in a tough spot, cap-wise. This is due in part to the cash needed for the Dexter Lawrence trade.”
It moved the Bengals into a cap-friendly position, according to a post on X by Ian Rapoport.
“While the #Bengals were previously at the bottom of the league in cap space after going through free agency, this move brings them back to the middle.”
Burrow signed a 5-year, $275 million contract with the Bengals in 2023.
How good will the Bengals be in 2026? There’s plenty of love already from NFL observers. They might even return to the Super Bowl, according to Bleacher Report.
Burrow said the talent is in the building to do it, according to ESPN.
“I think this is the most talented roster that we’ve had since I’ve been here,” Burrow said. “We got guys that work really hard to put themselves in position to perform well, perform to our standard. We haven’t necessarily done that for a couple of years, so we brought some guys in who have been there and done that and have their own standard of play and are going to live up to that.”
Lawrence is also part of that equation.
“It’s tough to find a guy at pick No. 10 that’s going to have more of an impact than Dexter will,” Burrow said. “So it’s exciting that we went and made that happen.”
