The saga continues.

The Cincinnati Bengals are opening training camp this week, still with no resolution when it comes to star defensive end Trey Hendrickson. The disconnect between the two sides as Hendrickson seeks a new contract has been very public.

Per Ian Rapoport, the Bengals have sent at least one new contract offer to Hendrickson, but the details of the offer were not made clear.

Hendrickson is looking for a long-term extension in guaranteed money, while the Bengals are looking to mitigate their risk as Hendrickson approaches 31 years old this season. With 17.5 sacks in each of the last two seasons, Hendrickson wants to be paid in the same range as his peers.

Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team reported on Sunday night that even though the Bengals have sent a new offer, he doesn’t believe the two sides are close. Meirov says the Bengals are still looking for shorter-term deals, something Hendrickson isn’t inclined to accept.

The fact that the Bengals have sent a new offer is a good sign, but if the offer is still far off from what Hendrickson wants, don’t expect this to be over with all that soon.

Signs point to something getting done and the two sides compromising, but nothing with the Bengals is ever a guarantee until pen meets paper.
