The Chicago Bears have shook up their linebacker room entering the 2026 season. Now, extra reinforcements at the position may be headed their way.

Chicago is set to work out linebacker Tony Fields II, via UFL analyst Michael Del Negro. Fields caught the attention of the Bears playing for the Columbus Aviators of the United Football League.

During the 2026 season, the linebacker put up 77 tackles, five for a loss and a sack. Fields was named to the All-UFL team. Now, he’ll have an opportunity to prove his game can translate to the NFL level.

It won’t be the first time Fields has spent time in the league. He was originally a fifth-round pick the Cleveland Browns in 2021. Fields went on to appear in 45 games for the franchise, starting 10 of them. The linebacker put up 88 tackles, two fumble recoveries and an interception.

Ultimately though, injuries push Fields off the roster after the 2024 season. He would then join the Los Angeles Rams’ practice squad but never made it into a game. After his year with the Aviators, Fields is now ready to try his hand at NFL football once more.

When it comes to Bears linebackers, the recently healthy TJ Edwards, Devin Bush and D’Marco Jackson will serve as starters. However, Jackson is dealing with an injury. As are players like Ruben Hyppolite, Keyshaun Elliot and Noah Sewell. With the injuries mounting, Fields may be brought in as some extra depth.

But first he must impress the Bears’ decision makers. If so, Fields’ path back to the NFL may come through Chicago.
