Bears vs. Giants: Keys to a victory

The weather is turning and it’s getting colder. That means the football is becoming more important.

November is when the playoff picture starts taking shape and teams really separate themselves.

The Giants are already contemplating their future, who will return next year, and what kind of rebuild they are going for. Questions that a year ago were being asked around Chicago.

The Bears hold a winning record, but a deeper look suggests the Bears aren’t really contenders.

Yet this is a game that Chicago should win, but will they?

Jaxon Dart is playing good football. The New York defense ranks poorly but has great players like Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Our crew weighs in with what it’s going to take to defeat the Giants on Sunday.

Sam: The weather looks iffy and perhaps a great day to keep the ball on the ground. The Giants run defense isn’t much better than the Bengals, so running shouldn’t be a problem. The OL will have to block Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux, which is a big factor to keeping Caleb Williams upright. On defense, don’t let Jaxon get out side the pocket. he’s an athletic QB and can make things happen.

Lester: This will be familiar to those who read my key last week… The Bears are the better team, and the Giants can’t stop the run. So I want to see Chicago grind out the yards behind whoever plays running back. Chicago’s offensive line should be able to create some holes, which will lead to a few explosives in the passing game as the Giants start to stack the box.

Jack R Salo: The Giants have a fun, but not fantastic quarterback. Beyond that, their defensive front is really good on paper but the results haven’t been there for most games this year. If the Bears can limit mistakes, they can get a lead by throwing in the first half, and hold the lead by running in the second. But one (or both) of these teams is probably going to shoot themselves in the foot with penalties and turnovers. Make sure it’s the other guys.

GOOCH: Theo Benedet vs Brian Burns is going to be a key matchup in this game – can the Canadian Eagle compete with Burns – when the Bears will be limited in the help they can provide him? Caleb building on his performance against the Bengals, and eliminating those frustrating moments of inaccuracy, will be key to maintaining Bears drives. And the Bears improved pass rush needs to get home against Dart. Finally, the Bears only had 7 penalties for only 43 yards against the Bengals – a repeat performance will go a long way towards ensuring a Bears victory.

What do you think it’s going to take to beat the Giants on Sunday?
