Both the Chicago Bears and the Kansas City Chiefs plan to start their number ones tonight, and this just feels right for the third preseason game. Back when teams played four preseason games, the third one was the “dress rehearsal” where teams often played their starters for most of, if not the entire, first half.
There are two weeks until week one, so I’m good to see the Bears get Caleb Williams and the starters a little bit of playing time. They looked good in their brief time last week against the Buffalo Bills, but the Bills didn’t have most of their ones in the game. The Chiefs intend to play two-time MVP Patrick Mahomes and most of the starting offense. Head coach Andy Reid announced seven of his injured players would be held out.
Bears head coach Ben Johnson didn’t give any specifics for who would or wouldn’t play, but he said the starters would go, and since his starters are all relatively healthy, this could be the preseason debut of veterans Joe Thuney and Grady Jarrett.
Regardless of who plays, just keep in mind this is just practice, and don’t forget all our open threads are rated WCG-MA.
