The Bears have signed Trapilo, who will compete for the starting LT job.
The Chicago Bears have officially signed second round draft pick Ozzy Trapilo to a four year rookie contract.
After concerns that a second round holdout across the league could impact all three of the Bears’ second round picks, the dominoes have started to fall. The Bears signed second round pick DT Shemar Turner earlier on Tuesday.
Standby for news on WR Luther Burden III, the Bears final unsigned second round pick that the team hopes to sign before rookies report to training camp this weekend.
Trapilo, the former Boston College standout at right tackle, figures to have an opportunity to compete to be the Bears’ left tackle of the future. If Braxton Jones (recovering from a fractured ankle) is not ready to go at the beginning of the season, or at any point thereafter, Trapilo will likely be competing with 2024 selection Kiran Amegadjie for the duties.
Jones is expected to begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.
Trapilo is not completely unfamiliar with playing LT; he started 10 games at LT for Boston College in 2022. He then went on to start 24 games at RT in 2023 and 2024.
Per Spotrac, Trapilo’s rookie deal is worth $7,718,124 over four years, with a $1,403,295 cap hit in 2025. The deal includes his first two years fully guaranteed, and 72% of the third year. That equates to $5,394,004 of fully guaranteed money.
