The Bears have placed linebacker T.J. Edwards and offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo on injured reserve, the team announced on Tuesday. The move effectively ends both of their respective seasons after injuries suffered in Chicago’s Wild Card win over the Packers on Saturday.
As corresponding roster moves, the Bears activated offensive tackle Braxton Jones off the injured reserve list and called up linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin from the practice squad to the active roster. Taking Reeves-Maybin’s spot on the practice squad will be linebacker Nephi Sewell, a four-year NFL veteran who also is Bears linebacker Noah Sewell’s older brother.
Jones, arguably the best value pick from Ryan Poles’ first draft as Chicago’s general manager, was the team’s primary starting left tackle from 2022 to 2024. He started the first three games of the season in 2025 but ultimately got benched in favor of Theo Benedet. He suffered a knee injury afterwards and has been on the Bears’ injured reserve list since October. With 44 career starts, he brings valuable experience to the table with Trapilo out for the rest of the postseason.
Reeves-Maybin, a 2023 Pro Bowler and All-Pro as a special teamer, signed with the Bears in November. He has played in three regular season games for the Bears this year purely as a special teamer, most notably tallying two tackles in Week 15 against the Browns. He took eight defensive snaps on Saturday against Green Bay, finishing with a tackle and a quarterback hurry as a blitzing defender.
Edwards suffered a fractured fibular in the Packers game that will leave him out for the remainder of the postseason. It’s unfortunate timing for the 29-year-old, who missed seven games during the regular season with multiple injuries. Trapilo had been coming into his own as Chicago’s starting left tackle, having held the role since Week 12 when Benedet got hurt and keeping a stranglehold on the role since. He finishes his rookie year with seven starts, including the postseason start against Green Bay.
