The Chicago Bears are currently taking part in mandatory minicamp as they prepare for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. The Bears made some interesting moves this offseason, including trading wide receiver DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for draft compensation.
One of the reasons that Chicago felt comfortable trading Moore was the play of last year’s breakout rookie Luther Burden III, who recently shared a heartwarming moment with some young fans when they asked him to call quarterback Caleb Williams, and the recently announced Madden cover athlete answered the FaceTime and said what’s up, via the NFL on Instagram.

The classy moves says a lot about both Williams and Burden, and also speaks to just how quickly this Bears team has captured the hearts of the Windy City in a short amount of time. The Bears this season will look to prove that last year’s success was no fluke, and avoid falling into the same trap as the Washington Commanders, who came crashing back down to Earth in 2025 following their shocking run to the NFC Championship Game the previous season.
Last year, the Bears benefited from several late-game comebacks and close wins, which isn’t necessarily a formula for long-term success, so they’ll want to continue to build better habits in the second year under head coach Ben Johnson this season.
Meanwhile, the Bears will hope that Burden and some of their other young skill positional players will be able to take another step forward this year and continue turning this offense into a buzzsaw moving forward, with Williams leading the charge.
The Bears are set to kick off their new season on September 13 against the Carolina Panthers.
