Bears edge rusher Dayo Odeyingbo suffered a torn Achilles in the team’s win over the Bengals on Sunday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport announced on Monday. As a result, he will miss the remainder of the 2025 regular season.
Odeyingbo was one of the prized free agent acquisitions that Ryan Poles made this past offseason, as the Bears signed him to a three-year, $48 million deal in March. Having spent the first four years of his career with the Colts, the 26-year-old defensive lineman played in and started all eight games Chicago has played to this point.
Production had been tough to come by for Odeyingbo prior to his unfortunate injury. In his eight games, he had tallied just one sack with 21 tackles, one pass deflection, and four quarterback hits. PFF gave him a 54.0 defensive grade for the season, ranking him 101st out of 119 qualified edge rushers.
Though he hadn’t quite lived up to expectations in his first year with the Bears, it’s never a good thing to see a player go down with an injury. His absence for the remainder of the year likely opens the door for Austin Booker, Dominique Robinson, and Daniel Hardy to see more playing time on defense. Chicago could use this opportunity to acquire another edge rusher before Tuesday’s trade deadline, as well.
