Harris, a former Packers player, was most recently the defensive backs coach for the Dallas Cowboys while Randle-El worked with Johnson in Detroit.
Two assistant coaches are joining Ben Johnson’s Chicago Bears staff, according to reports.
According to the Dallas Cowboys website, Al Harris, the Cowboys’ defensive backs and assistant head coach last season, will join the Bears as a defensive passing game coordinator.
Harris is a rising coach, having helped develop Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland and Jourdan Lewis in Dallas.
And according to Adam Schefter, Antwaan Randle-El is coming to Chicago from Johnson’s Detroit Lions staff. Randle-El coached the wide receivers in Detroit and gets the promotion to Assistant Head Coach/wide receivers.
Johnson and Harris were together with the Miami Dolphins in 2012 when Harris was a coaching intern and Johnson was an offensive assistant.
Harris spent time in Kansas City from 2013 to 2018, overlapping with GM Ryan Poles. After spending 2019 in the college ranks with Florida Atlantic, he joined the Cowboys staff in 2020 and has been there since.
As a player, he played 15 years in the NFL in stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles (Andy Reid connection), Green Bay Packers (Mike McCarthy connection), Dolphins and St. Louis Rams.
He spent eight years with the Packers, probably his best-known NFL stint.
Randle-El, a native of Riverdale, Ill., played quarterback at Indiana University before having a successful NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Commanders. He was also drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 1997.
Randle-El joined the Lions as their receivers coach in 2021. He entered the NFL as an offensive assistant with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019.
