The Bears have acquired edge rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka in a trade with the Browns on Tuesday, Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports reported. The move will see Chicago send Cleveland a 2026 sixth-round pick, while the Browns will send a 2026 seventh-round pick along with Tryon-Shoyinka in the deal to the Bears.
With the 2025 NFL trade deadline hitting at 3 p.m. CST, many teams are making moves to boost themselves for the second half of the season. This marks the first trade the Bears have made, and as of this writing, it remains to be seen if any more are in store.
Tryon-Shoyinka, 26, was a first-round pick by the Buccaneers in the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent the first four years of his career in Tampa Bay, tallying 15 sacks and starting in 45 games in that span. Upon the expiration of his rookie contract, he signed a one-year, $4.5 million deal with the Browns in the 2025 offseason. Per OverTheCap, the Bears will acquire a $1.2 million cap hit in the trade.
Chicago recently lost starter Dayo Odeyingbo for the season with a torn Achilles, so trading for Tryon-Shoyinka gives them some added depth at the defensive end position. He’s played in eight games for the Browns in a reserve role, tallying just nine tackles. However, his pass-rushing efficiency is strong on a limited snap count:
It’s a good depth addition for the Bears at a low cost, but Tryon-Shoyinka alone won’t fix their pass-rushing issues. Another move will likely be needed to elevate the unit, though the clock is ticking for them to do so.
