PITTSBURGH — A Backyard Brawl alum, Zach Frazier didn’t say he wouldn’t disrespect a Pitt logo. Maybe the second-year Pittsburgh Steelers center would do things just a little differently than his defensive back teammate and fellow West Virginia product, Beanie Bishop.
“I mean, I wouldn’t take a video of it,” Frazier said after Thursday’s OTA practice.
Bishop, however, did film and post himself demonstrating his dislike for the former rival Panthers, wiping his shoe on a script logo in the shared UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Tuesday.
“Honestly, I haven’t even saw it, but I don’t even know why there’s a Pitt logo on the floor,” Frazier said. “Personally, I think logos like that should be on the wall or ceiling, so I mean, I don’t know why they have a logo on the floor over there. Personally, that’s kind of what I think.”

Rookie offensive tackle Doug Nestor, also a former Mountaineer, isn’t in the business of being publicly vocal about the rivalry. That, he said, is already Bishop’s job.
“Beanie’s a little bit more vocal than me and Fraz, so we kind of leave the trash-talking to him and everything,” Nestor said. “But we’ll be there to back him up if need be. … He’s ran his mouth ever since I met him the first year he got to WVU. I mean, he’s an awesome guy though. He doesn’t mean anything by it.”
That’s not what Pitt backers think. Panthers players stood outside the weight room beside the Steelers’ practice fields on Wednesday, jeering Bishop as he ran through 7-on-7s.
“You know, they always talk, especially after they beat us last year,” Bishop said after. “They had a lot to say and things got quiet as the season went on. That was kind of it. I kind of looked at it as a Beanie Bishop Fan Club.”
Pitt won last season’s renewal of the Backyard Brawl 38-34 despite being down 10 with under five minutes to go.
“It’s two fanbases (that) hate each other,” Frazier said. “It’s a great game. It should always be played.”
