Last week, after the Baltimore Ravens were eliminated from playoff contention, they decided to fire John Harbaugh after 18 seasons. He immediately became the top NFL head coaching candidate available. Now the Ravens have the tough task of trying to find an even better coach, which obviously is far from a sure thing.
Yet, the Ravens have hit the ground running, and they’ve already assembled a long list of candidates they’d like to speak with. Some of those interviews are beginning to take place this week.
Specifically, the Ravens are set to interview a pair of offensive-minded geniuses. Both are former NFL head coaches.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Ravens are set to interview former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel at some point this week. He’s interviewing for the Cleveland Browns’ head coaching vacancy on Monday.
He’s also set for interviews with the Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans. If none of the head coaching vacancies are the right fit, McDaniel even has an interview set with the Detroit Lions to potentially fill their offensive coordinator vacancy.
Meanwhile, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Ravens are interviewing former Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury for their head coaching vacancy on Monday. Kingsbury is still just 46, and he brings four years of NFL head coaching experience from when he led the Arizona Cardinals to a 28-37-1 record, including an 11-win season that featured a trip to the playoffs.
The Titans are another team interested in speaking with Kingsbury to pair the QB wizard with No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward. Kingsbury just spent the past two seasons coaching up Jayden Daniels, and he’ll surely be working with another talented QB wherever he lands.
