The Baltimore Ravens didn’t have their starting quarterback on Sunday, but Lamar Jackson’s injury didn’t prevent them from pulling out a 30-16 win anyway. While it has to feel good for Baltimore to return to the victory column, the biggest news from this weekend came from the fact that the Ravens listed Jackson as a full participant in practice on Friday.
Normally, that wouldn’t be a story at all. Yet, when it came time for the Ravens to list their inactives, Jackson was listed. That came as a big shock for those who saw that Jackson was listed as a full participant, but the issue was that the Ravens’ QB should have actually been listed as a limited participant in practice because he didn’t take any starting reps.
The Ravens did change Jackson’s injury designation on Saturday, but the NFL still takes issue with the erroneous injury report.
Now, according to one source who spoke to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Ravens’ latest infraction creates “very bad optics.” More so, now the league could take “substantial action” against the Ravens’ franchise.
“It’s an opportunity for the league to make a very strong statement on a very important topic,” PFT’s source added.
Coach Harbaugh said the incident was an “honest mistake.” Yet, the NFL may not view it that way. Considering how much money is involved in sports gambling, we can see how this is a big issue, and the NFL rightfully wants to ensure it never happens again. Thus, a significant punishment could very well be in the works.
